Welcome to my opinion piece on the final 2 missing fighters for the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game on Nintendo Switch. My choices may surprise you, but I will try to make a good point as to why…
I will start off my piece by saying that the two final contestants will not be the heavy favorites. No Goku from the Dragon Ball universe, despite the Kakarot game which is coming soon; Kakarot is his original name, Goku his earth name, for those unaware of this little bit of DB lore.
The second heavy favorite and to be frank, this is my hope as well, but I seriously doubt Nintendo will actually include none other than Waluigi. I think his role in the Mario universe/lore is simply too small. His popularity is mostly due to the fans like you and me. I can hear you thinking already that some of those current roster characters are “lower profile” as well, I just think that although Waluigi might be awesome to have as a fighter, his profile is just too low-key to be added.
So who is left if you take out those two heavy fan favorites?
I heard some rumors on more Fire Emblem characters, from the new Three Houses game. Minecraft Steve was mentioned. I even heard John Cena as an option. He would be funny as an addition, but really, we all know you’d pick the Rock if you wanted to add a wrestling icon…
And that subtle wrestling reference actually is the reason behind my first pick. I took a close look at the current roster and it is lacking heels. Not that many bad guys and the ones that are present are fan favorites in their own right. King K. Rool, Ganondorf, Ridley, … All impressive heels to keep using the wrestling term and that is how my first pick came to be.
I want an impressive heel, someone you can love and hate at the same time. Sure, Waluigi did come to mind, but I went to my first heavy favorite Goku instead. Well, not exactly Goku but his biggest rival, none other than Vegeta. The Saiyan Prince himself. Goku could even be his shadow fighter, though my preferred pick here would be his own son Trunks, heck, you could even go for the fused Vegeta/Goku combination. Much like the luminary from Dragon Quest, the possibilities are pretty much without limit here.
His fighting powers would put him right at the top of desirability and adding him, while unexpected, would certainly raise a ton of eyebrows! But let us be honest here, as a lifelong otaku, seeing him join the roster would probably be the coolest reveal of all. The most unexpected and yet, who would say he does not deserve a shot at eternal fame?
And yes, I do realize we should make the final 2 fighters both Vegeta and Goku. Have them be rivals in SSMU, how amazing wouldn’t that be, right? But no, I have had the idea for my final fighter for such a long time and she should be added for sure.
My last entry to the Smash roster… Rabbid Peach! The sassy one! The fun one! The violent one! Have her get her handgun, shooting at her enemies, enraged at times, sassy at other times. The possibilities with her, they are just more than hilarious and we do all see the possibilities by adding her to our current jam-packed roster.
At the same time, it would be a great tribute to Ubisoft to add Rabbid Peach to the roster. I really think she could be a formidable foe or beloved fighter. She could even be programmed to ignore your repeat commands at random times, giving her a serious disadvantage to play with! She could have an enraged mode where she just homes in on her opponent and keeps attacking!
She would also raise the final number of female combatants. Much like the heels, they are in need of a boost and I think Rabbid Peach might even be a heel character. Though my original pick of a shadow fighter makes her a babyface, a good girl, so to speak. I could not pick any between the original 3 other characters from the Mario+Rabbids lore so I decided to make it totally randomized.
Much like Rabbid Peach her personality, the choice between Yoshi Rabbid, Mario Rabbid or Luigi Rabbid would definitely make her a good girl, but at the same time if we were to pick the enemies from the game… We got our female heel! So yes! Let us give her the evil Rabbids as shadow fighters and there you have it, a highly randomized shadow fighter that can either help or be useless! I am laughing out loud already just thinking about it.
Obviously, there were others that came to mind as well for these two remaining fighters, but I just think these two were the most suited as outside picks. I do hope and expect them to be Goku and Waluigi to be absolutely honest, I just would have more fun with my 2 choices though…
