As I was able to play this game before on the post-E3 event in the Netherlands, I knew exactly what to expect but this was my time actually enjoying the game in handheld mode. My preview is not going to talk about the story, my full review is intended for that, but my intention is to describe the advantages of playing a game like this in handheld mode.
So obviously the advantages are well-known, you get to hold it in your hands and play wherever, but that is exactly what makes this game so darn impressive. It did not matter where I was playing, whether it was downstairs on the sofa or upstairs in my game room.
Our video on YouTube highlights the handheld gameplay and should display some of my best attacks. The game is more than just attacking obviously, you also got some puzzle solving, side-scrolling and so much more. More on this in my full review.
My first impressions on the actual gameplay after the post-E3 event were incredibly high, my current gameplay has somewhat tempered my “high”. There are some minor issues with the camera that I have encountered, sometimes getting stuck in a corner and the camera not moving along. I guess this is due to the variety of venues along the way. At one point in the second chapter, you are finding your way through a big mansion and the game moves from one side to the other. Outside the place, inside the place, up the stairs, fight off enemies of “the Hand” and it is followed by a massive boss battle.
The RPG elements are mostly there for expanding the attack patterns and the health of your allies. There will be some surprises in the allies section, within the first 30 minutes of playing, you are already getting Venom to join your side. If you watched our post-E3 hands-on video on YouTube, you will have spotted me playing him already! Game characters like Captain Marvel become very powerful when adding more and more attacks to her arsenal. Highly impressive to say the least. More on this in my full review as well. This needs some more explanation in comparison to this small teaser.
What I also really loved is the number of characters in this game. As the genre closely resembles a Musou game in many ways, this action/RPG game has so many features. I love it and I hate it. At this moment in time, I already hate the moment I will have finished this game. Right now, I’m enjoying Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order very much and I look forward to write my full review as there is so much to talk about.
