Never having gotten around to playing any of the Trine games, I was very eager to get my hands on the fourth game of the series. I had heard mostly positive things about this game series and one of my best friends actually said it would be right up on my alley. He described it as a blend between platforming and puzzling with a kick to it. I agree wholeheartedly and will say this game is gorgeous.

In itself, you have your band of heroes that need to protect us from evil. You can switch between them and as the entire first world serves its purpose as a tutorial, the real game starts from the second act really. From here on out, you need to find out whether or not to use the mage, the thief or the big brute! The brute being my favourite character, though that might be because of the physical resemblances between him and I, haha.

Once you get going, you are constantly switching from one character to another and while I would like it to be a little less often, it never really bothered me too much. I just felt like I wanted to keep playing as one particular character to truly master its skills instead of the continuous switching between both. Nothing wrong with the approach, just a personal thought. The switching is part of the charm of this game after all.

Trine 4 is gorgeous. It is just so vibrant and brightly colored that I often felt the need to just stop moving and take in the scenery. Few games make me do this, but Trine 4 really caught my eye on that aspect. Even the puzzles throughout are not hidden or made hard to notice, you either get em or you do not. Like that first time I was stuck with the female thief. I was ignoring the fact that I could run on her connected rope and I ended up using it as a standfast to pull a big rock out of the way. Smart puzzling is required sometimes!

The Story itself is interesting but I will be honest, when I was nearing the higher acts, I kept skipping them. I was just so drawn into this game that I kept feeling the need to keep playing. It was that addictive despite all my negative points I mentioned before. Great games will always be great games, right?

In conclusion, Trine 4 was marvelous and I honestly do not know if I would have had the time on my hands to play this one if it had not been for the review code slightly forcing my hand. I am glad it did, I got to know a brand new series and I am loving it! Right now, my only decision left is to see whether I want to play all of them on my TV or on the go as they are available on Switch as well. I think I will go for Playstation because it just looks amazing!
